When I first started my main blog I had no aspirations of earning a wage from it. I began because I’ve always had a love of writing and I wanted an outlet for that. The thought that I could make money online as a blogger couldn’t have been further from my mind. But over the years after working hard on my blog I realised there were many ways to monetize it. Here are some ways you can make money online as a blogger.
Affiliate marketing
If you have a good amount of traffic and your audience are engaged then affiliate marketing can work well for you. Whenever you promote a product like a dress, a new cleanser or a cashback app you can be rewarded if someone signs up/ purchases the item. The item doesn’t become any more expensive for the consumer but you get a little thanks for influencing someone to buy it.
Affiliate money can be quite low, but it can build up over time if you have an engaged enough audience. There are so many options which offer affiliate marketing for example if you recommend a blogging course and someone signs up you may get a commission.
Make money online as a blogger through sponsored posts
This is the way a lot of bloggers make money. Sponsored posts can come from brands and agencies who want you to talk about a product or service. Or it could be through an SEO agency who are more looking for the link you can offer them.
The former tends to be higher paid as the company are looking for your engaged audience as much as the influence from your site. Whereas SEO agencies tend to look for sites with a high DA (domain authority) and tend to pay lower.
This is the area I make most of my money in through opportunities which land in my inbox or that I have applied for.
Social media sponsorship
If you’ve got a good social media following you can make money online as a blogger by putting AD’s out. Instagram is an obvious channel and one I see a lot of sponsorship on. A brand will pay you a certain amount of money to create content for your social media. It might include feed images on Instagram, story posts or content for the brands own page.
While Instagram may remain the most popular social media platform for sponsorship you may gain them for Facebook or Twitter if your following is right for the brand.
Other ways to make money online
Being a blogger can help springboard you to other ways of being able to make money online. Through my blog I made the progression to start doing some freelance work. This has included ghost written articles and articles for online newspapers and magazine.
You can make money by being a virtual assistant and helping out bloggers with jobs online. This could be creating and scheduling social media, completing keyword research or other general admin jobs. This is great way to make money if you have some skills that you can offer to others. Sometimes bloggers may just not have enough time to do the things themselves.
